When we got closer to him, it was impossible to overlook the love that was in his eyes. He had a soft soul that appeared to be too loving for a life that was filled with difficulties. Canelo was sent to an oncologist, where tests showed the devastating truth: he had a malignant tumor on his skull in addition to transmissible venereal tumors (TVT). The presence of this sexually transmitted disease provided further evidence of a distressing fact: Canelo had been used as a breeding dog, but he was abandoned after he grew ill and was no longer of any value. Without wasting any time, we immediately began his first session of chemotherapy. It appeared as though Canelo had spent the majority of his life alone, which is not surprising given his reclusive and suspicious nature. In the course of spending countless hours by his side, I gradually gained his trust and demonstrated to him the love that he had been denied. Through sharing his story on social media and putting him in touch with supporters who already loved him, I opened him to a world of kindness.
