We have a cat named Lily who is 14 years old and requires insulin. When she and her brother were 12 weeks old, we took them in as a rescue and adopted them both. It was three times that we moved across the country with her.
One night, she managed to get away from our current residence, and since then, everything that could possible go wrong has gone wrong. Not until the other cats growled and hissed at something outside, and then I peered outside and spotted Lily, did we even realize that she had escaped. It took us a few hours before we realized that she had escaped. Simply put, my heart sunk.
We spotted her a few times and made several attempts to capture her, but she was determined to continue on with her journey. While we stayed up all night, we were under the impression that she would return soon, but she did not. During the subsequent six torturous days, a comprehensive search was conducted during the day and night in a big town that contained four lakes and a great deal of woodlands.
We will be forever grateful that our Lily has finally made it home.
